About the Studio:
Astral Clocktower Studios is a women-led, indie game development studio currently crafting Kristala, a dark fantasy, action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5. In Kristala players take on the role of magical feline warriors exploring a rich, story-driven world filled with danger, beauty, and ancient secrets.We're a remote team of passionate developers and creatives from around the globe, and we're looking for a talentedLevel Designer/Level Artistto help shape compelling, immersive, and emotionally resonant environments.Your Role:
As our Level Designer, you'll collaborate closely with our design, art, and engineering teams to build and refine levels that blend visual storytelling, combat, traversal, and exploration. You'll transform blockouts into living spaces that challenge and inspire players and make the world of Kristala unforgettable.Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement levels that support the game's vision, mechanics, and tone Block out and iterate on layouts using Unreal Engine 5 Collaborate across disciplines to integrate story, combat, and environmental storytelling Place enemies and interactive elements to support pacing and player agency Conduct playtests and refine level flow, difficulty, and engagement based on feedbackCore Qualifications:
2+ years experience as a Level Designer or in a similar role Strong proficiency with Unreal Engine 5 Portfolio showcasing playable levels or layout designs (graybox or final builds) Solid understanding of pacing, traversal, visual storytelling, and encounter design Fluent in English with strong communication and collaboration skills Comfortable using Discord for daily communication and project tracking Ability to balance creativity with technical constraints and production timelinesBonus Points For:
Shipped one or more commercial game titles Advanced knowledge of Unreal's landscape and terrain tools Experience designing for Soulslike or action RPG mechanics Interest in worldbuilding, lore integration, or environmental storytelling Passion for games and a strong grasp of genre trends
