LINE MANAGER (REPORT TO) Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean DURATION 12 months INBAR Department Global Programme Reports to Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Terms of Employment 12 months (possible extension up to 24 months), with three-month probation period. Salary 1800 USD (including benefits). The International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR) is an inter-governmental development organization committed to reducing poverty and protecting the environment through the use of bamboo and rattan. With headquarters in Beijing, China and offices in India, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Ghana and Ecuador, INBAR works with 51 member countries worldwide, 12 of which are in the LAC region. INBAR is seeking a highly capable Project Manager for the execution of the IFAD-funded South-South initiative to promote the sustainable use of bamboo as an innovative strategy for climate resilience of smallholder farmers in Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil. Implemented in these three countries, the project goal is to enhance livelihoods and climate change resilience of smallholder farmers and rural communities in Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil by replicating, upscaling and sharing the lessons learned on bamboo sector development practices, such as the Bamboo as Substitute for Plastic (BASP) Initiative, through South-South partnerships. The specific outcomes of the project are Improved climate resilience of smallholder farmers by using techniques for bamboo production, use and transformation; Diversified livelihood and income generation opportunities for smallholders and rural communities by improved SMEs for value addition of bamboo; Local institutions strengthened with knowledge and tools to effectively use bamboo as a potential tool for income generation and climate resilience The successful candidate will Execute the project to ensure the achievement of specific results, including the development and delivery of annual work plans, performance targets, and milestones. Lead the project by fostering collaboration with strategic partners and promoting a cooperative and productive work environment. Oversee the recruitment and provide supervision for short-term consultants, ensuring high-quality contributions to project outcomes. Assume full responsibility for the successful implementation of all project activities, meeting timelines and objectives. Build and maintain strong working relationships with INBAR focal points across the three countries, strategic partners, and all relevant stakeholders. Ensure open and transparent communication with INBAR’s Latin America and Caribbean Office (LAC), guaranteeing compliance with INBAR guidelines, standards, and best practices. Prepare and submit timely and comprehensive donor reports, adhering to funding requirements and expectations. Monitor project finances in collaboration with INBAR’s Finance Team to ensure efficient resource utilization and compliance with budgets. Design and implement a strategy to scale up project achievements and ensure sustainability of results. Supervise the development of training materials, extension programs, and capacity‑building initiatives to enhance stakeholder knowledge and skills. Provide technical and administrative support to strategic partners, facilitating complementary activities and ensuring alignment with project goals. Monitor and supervise the execution of all planned activities in line with the project’s logical framework, proactively addressing delays or challenges to implement timely solutions. Maintain and regularly update the project monitoring and tracking system to ensure accountability and facilitate decision‑making. Coordinate frequent updates on project progress to increase engagement, and disseminate results through indexed scientific journals, reports, presentations, INBAR’s website, and other communication channels. Work closely with the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean to address administrative, operational, and strategic project needs. Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean to support project success. Experience A minimum of seven years of demonstrated experience in implementing livelihood and development projects, with a strong preference for experience in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region. Proven ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders across various levels. Extensive experience engaging with governmental institutions and international cooperation agencies, fostering productive partnerships and ensuring alignment with policy frameworks. Expertise in one or more of the following areas: natural resource management, community training, and value chain development, with a track record of successful project outcomes. In-depth knowledge of participatory approaches and community‑driven development, ensuring active stakeholder engagement and project sustainability. Hands‑on experience in working with bamboo or other non‑timber forest product (NTFP) value chains, demonstrating the ability to develop innovative, sustainable, and scalable solutions. Education A postgraduate degree in sustainable management, environmental science, sustainable construction, agriculture, environmental economics, or a related field is required. Training courses or certifications related to bamboo will be highly valued. Language Excellent oral and written expression in Spanish and Portuguese. Fluid written and spoken English. Travel The successful candidate should be willing to undertake travel in the three countries, as well as to other places as required.
