In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve challenges, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and directly impact short-term and long-term business goals while coordinating these objectives with all Simteam facilities.
How will you make a difference?
What you will do in this role involves designing and supporting Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and Reduced HIL (Slim) systems within the Erie Simulation and Controls team, collaborating with Simteam Architects & Integrators (Simteam). You will participate in simulator design, development and integration to meet current and future integration testing capabilities and address real-time concept challenges. You will facilitate new capabilities to enhance the model development catalog and build environments in coordination with Simteam, provide simulation user-experience environment enhancements, and design and support DAQ and data analysis runtime and post-run data reduction capability with coordination from Simteam. You will also facilitate communication and coordination with Simteam Architects.
Responsibilities- Assist in designing and supporting HIL and Reduced HIL (Slim) systems within the Erie Simulation and Controls team.
- Participate in simulator design, development, and integration to meet current and future integration testing capabilities and address real-time concept challenges.
- Facilitate new capabilities to enhance the model development catalog and build environments coordinating with the Simteam.
- Provide simulation user-experience environment enhancements where needed coordinating with the Simteam.
- Design and support DAQ and analysis runtime and post-run data reduction capability coordinating with the Simteam.
- Facilitate communication and coordination with Simteam Architects.
- Supporting testing environments to maintain consistent capabilities used in all global simulation environments.
- Maintain the configuration control system for the global simulation environments.
- Be capable of troubleshooting real-time HIL, emulated, and virtual capability and providing customer support.
- Lead in following a strong software development process and provide working knowledge of global Simteam software development tools including revision control and defect tracking.
- Work with local and global Simteam members to ensure proper on-target performance of Simulink plant models for various requisitions, NPI, and subsystems.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with global Simteam policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment.
- Work with subsystem design teams to identify new requirements for modeling locomotive systems combining real-time systems and behavioral and physics-based dynamic plant models.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to global Simteam standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting assigned projects.
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments with local and global Simteams.
- Bachelor of Computer Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical Engineering.
- Extensive experience with Linux embedded systems.
- Understanding of Real-Time concepts.
- Experience working with hardware-in-the-loop simulators and modeling software environments.
- Experience with Linux-supported compilers, make, shell programming, libraries, binary applications, and other interpreted languages.
- Working knowledge of software and electrical interface/integration hardware design techniques, including the ability to read/understand schematics.
- Understanding of real-time communication protocols (Ethernet/Serial/CAN/ARCNet).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with proven history of participating in teams.
- Troubleshooting of PCI-based Linux industrial-grade computer systems.
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink.
- Experience with Gitlab version control process.
- Experience with National Instruments software and hardware.
- Experience with other model-based-design tools, such as MatrixX.
