- Job Purpose
The Second Nautical Officer (2ON) of the PLSVs acts as DPO, depending on their experience and qualifications, when the vessel is in Dynamic Positioning mode. Assumes the conventional duties of 2ON when the vessel is not involved in PD operations, reporting to the Chief Mate or Safety Officer. The DPO will be supervised during the vigil by a Senior DP Operator
Job Description
- Support the Chief Officer in the ship's maintenance program, ensuring that safety, salvage and fire fighting equipment are ready for use. Will ensure that navigation and radio equipment are up-to-date and well maintained;
- Maintain surveillance of safe navigation at sea, anchored and when operating in DP operations;
- Ensure the maintenance of all rescue and firefighting equipment;
- Make sure that all navigation equipment is working properly. Preparation of the walkway to the sea, as required by the statute and reporting of defects in the equipment;
- Ensure that all publications and navigation charts are corrected by date and that navigation alerts are displayed;
- Acts as a Helicopter Landing Officer, when necessary, as long as he has valid training
- Assists the Health, Environment and Safety (SMS) Representative and Physician as needed, with familiarization courses for arrivals of never-embarked personnel and other employees

- Ensure that all security plans are up-to-date, correct and in compliance with current regulations;
