Automation Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced automation solutions for nuclear operations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and process control applications. The Automation Engineer will oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of existing automation systems to ensure maximum reliability and uptime. This role requires technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff on automation best practices and technologies. Collaboration with nuclear operations, engineering, and maintenance teams is essential to identify automation opportunities that enhance safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Automation Engineer will develop and maintain complex control logic, HMI/SCADA interfaces, and data acquisition systems for critical nuclear plant processes. A root cause analysis and corrective actions will be implemented for automation system failures or performance issues. NRC regulations, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and nuclear quality assurance requirements must be met by all automation systems under this engineer's responsibility. This position involves managing automation projects from concept through commissioning, including scope definition, budgeting, and schedule management. Comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, system architectures, maintenance procedures, and training materials, must be developed and maintained. Industrial control systems security measures will be implemented according to NRC and NERC CIP requirements. Evaluation of emerging automation technologies and leading continuous improvement initiatives are key responsibilities of this role. Support for outage planning and execution for automation system upgrades and modifications is also expected.
