Wildlife Works' conservation projects drive direct financing to forest communities to fund their own economic development while preventing millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere annually.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Communication Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about environmental conservation and possess strong communication skills to effectively convey our company's mission, values, and initiatives to various stakeholders. Experience in engaging and collaborating with indigenous communities is a great differentiator, just as understanding indigenous cultures, values and traditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies that foster positive relationships and meaningful partnerships with indigenous communities, recognizing their rights, interests, and perspectives.
  • Manage all social media channels for the company, in collaboration with global teams and outside stakeholders, as well as community partners
  • Create culturally appropriate and accessible communication materials, including brochures, presentations, videos, and newsletters, to convey information about company activities, sustainability efforts, and community benefits to communities and other stakeholders
  • Lead the development of community level and community-based communication strategies and integrate these with the overall communication strategy for the company's other stakeholders.
  • Organize and participate in community meetings, workshops, and events to provide updates, gather feedback, and address questions or concerns related to forestry operations and land management practices.
  • Facilitate training sessions and capacity-building initiatives to enhance indigenous community engagement, participation, and empowerment in forestry-related activities.
  • Coordinate with external partners, including indigenous organizations, government agencies, non-profit groups, and industry associations, to leverage resources, share best practices, and promote cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and engagement activities for outside audiences, as well as with indigenous communities, identifying opportunities for improvement and adaptation.
  • Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and regulations related to indigenous rights, land tenure, and natural resource management, and ensure compliance in all communication and engagement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven at least 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably within the social impact, environmental, or sustainability sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in an accessible and engaging manner.
  • Strong storytelling abilities, with a knack for crafting compelling narratives and messaging that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media management, content management systems, and analytics tools, as well as content creation software.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive and collaborative approach, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for environmental conservation and commitment to promoting socially inclusive green economy models.
