Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brasil UNICEF - United Nations Children's Fund Tempo inteiro

Millions of people worldwide support UNICEF and its mission by raising money, campaigning, and volunteering to help children in various ways.

This global support presents an opportunity to elevate engagement with a committed group of volunteer supporters, significantly extending UNICEF's reach and transforming the organization.

Volunteers can uniquely enhance UNICEF's efforts by:

  • Creating stronger connections, better communication, and more accountability between UNICEF and the communities it serves.
  • Fostering vibrant discussion, debate, and information sharing about child rights in the areas where UNICEF operates.
  • Expanding UNICEF's presence and reach, thereby enhancing the impact of its programs and strengthening the brand and advocacy for child rights.

Since 2020, the Brazil Country Office has an online volunteer program, #tmjUNICEF, designed to share information, co-create advocacy campaigns, and promote behavior change around children's rights, mental health, and climate change and combating fake news.

The #tmjUNICEF initiative provides tools for young people to create content for social media, such as videos, podcasts, blog posts, and newsletters.

Entering its fifth year, the program has recruited more than 20,000 volunteers, 5,000 only in 2024. These individuals help spread UNICEF's messages on both their own social networks and UNICEF's platforms.

In 2021, a core group of 20 volunteers was selected to regularly produce content for UNICEF's social media platforms, aligning with UNICEF's communication strategy.

In 2022, the Brazil Country Office expanded its focus to combat climate change and environmental degradation, both online with #tmjUNICEF and offline through a partnership with OMO under the Dirt is Good (DIG) initiative.

To engage in offline and local actions, existing volunteers from the government-run adolescent citizenship groups (NUCAs) in each municipality, established by the UNICEF Municipal Seal Initiative, were asked to start local Climate Action Clubs.

These targeted municipalities include indigenous and traditional populations living in the Amazon and Semiarid regions, some of the most socially vulnerable and most affected by climate change in Brazil.

Young volunteers come together in person at the Climate Action Clubs to discuss, take action, and mobilize others, especially young people, in their communities on locally relevant issues around pre-determined monthly themes.

The new challenge of #tmjUNICEF is to promote local action.

Under the direct supervision of the Digital Communication Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Key Tasks:

Support Volunteer Engagement:

  • Assist volunteers in producing and disseminating related communication materials.
  • Facilitate collaboration between volunteers and the Communication section.
  • Facilitate collaboration between volunteers and relevant program areas.
  • Engagement and coordination with the youth and adolescents of the program.
  • Coordination of events, development of ideas, text review, blogs, podcasts, scripts, and videos.
  • Monitoring the relationship with volunteers through Discord and WhatsApp groups.
  • Coordination of #EntreNoClimaUNICEF action days and its related contents.
  • Focus on climate change and other related areas as part of the Dirt Is Good partnerships.

Digital Communication and Events:

  • Assist UNICEF Communications with cards and videos as needed.
  • Assist UNICEF Communications at internal and external events as needed.

Key End-Results:

Engagement / Community Management:

  • Strategy Implementation: Adapt and implement the engagement strategies for the #tmjUNICEF and DIG projects to foster strong relationships and maintain high engagement rates through online and inperson events, conversations, trainings, and other activities.
  • Content Support: Assist the volunteer community in producing and disseminating content across social networks.
  • Event Organization: Organize all events, both online and inperson, ensuring highquality content, speakers, learning experiences, and operational functionality. This includes selecting venues and digital platforms, conducting technical inspections, and coordinating with invitees.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Support interactions between volunteers and NUCA participants (from the UNICEF Municipal Seal project) to integrate inperson and digital activities, collaborating closely with the Adolescent team.
  • Special Events: Organize the #EntreNoClimaUNICEF action days in coordination with the adolescent engagement team.

Content Production:

  • Material Production: Produce and support the creation of communication materials (including social media posts, videos, and live stream events) for the volunteer program, ensuring timely execution and highquality content.
  • Volunteer Collaboration: Support and conduct meetings with core volunteer groups (leaders, content producers, thematic groups, and the Twitter base/mobilization group) to foster their involvement in content production, campaigns, and special activations on social media.
  • Script Writing: Write scripts summarizing monthly activities of #EntreNoClimaUNICEF.
  • Youth-

Oriented Content:
Suggest and create videos and content targeted at youth for UNICEF's social networks, especially TikTok.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Engagement Tracking: Daily monitor volunteer engagement through the Discord community, email marketing, WhatsApp, and ClickUp.
  • Content Monitoring: Regularly assess the content production by volunteers.
  • Activity Assessment: Conduct regular monitoring and evaluations to measure the reach and impact of activities. Prepare and share results and reports with UNICEF teams in a timely manner.

By undertaking these tasks, the UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in enhancing the engagement and effectiveness of UNICEF's volunteer program, particularly in the context of climate change initiatives and the Dirt Is Good partnership.

Brazil is security level 3 (moderate).

United Nations Department of Safety and Security UNDSS Brazil advises to exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high levels of serious and violent crime, particularly in major cities.

Violent crime as muggings, armed robbery, kidnappings, and sexual assault, is very high. Avoid shanty towns (favelas) in the big cities and if you are attacked or robbed, do not resist. Demonstrations can occur at any time and may turn violent with little or no warning. All United Nations personnel must scrupulously comply with UNDSS procedures and recommendations during their assignment in Brazil.

For missions in rural areas or indigenous reservations, special procedures may apply; UN personnel should consult with the local DSS office in advance.
