Job Title: AI Engineer (Search Engine)

Company: Insight Global's Client

Type: 10 month extending contract

Location: Fully Remote

Working Hours: 10AM - 6PM BRT (9AM-5PM EST)

Project Summary: Backend features for an existing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) service, focused on search across large-scale medical and scientific documents. Involves pre-processing and embedding over half a billion documents, semantic chunking strategies, evaluation pipeline improvements, fine-tuning LLMs for textual RAG use cases, and collaboration with DevOps for production rollout. This is an individual contributor role with emphasis on strong communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

Work on backend features for a Retrieval-Augmented Generation service focused on search across large-scale documents. Responsibilities include:

  • Build and optimize RAG models for search across medical and scientific documents.
  • Pre-process and embed data for searchable, contextually accurate results (over half a billion documents).
  • Develop semantic chunking strategies and improve the automated evaluation pipeline.
  • Fine-tune LLMs for textual RAG use cases and conduct hands-on experimentation.
  • Deploy to non-prod environments and collaborate with DevOps for production rollout.
  • Communicate progress clearly and work effectively as an independent contributor.
Requirements
  • Ability to work full-time hours on a contract basis (10AM - 6PM BRT)
  • CLT ONLY (This cannot change to PJ)
  • No health benefits provided in CLT benefits
  • Need to start within 2-3 weeks
  • Paid on a monthly basis, no overtime
Must-Haves
  • 1+ years of experience as a Search Engineer or AI Engineer
  • Search technology experience – OpenSearch, building scalable search systems
  • 2+ years of Python development experience (API creation, model training, testing, backend programming)
  • Familiarity with LangChain for building LLM workflows using tools, memory, and retrieval
  • Strong communication skills – able to work independently with clear updates to the team
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with AWS infrastructure (IAM, VPC, S3, etc.)
  • Exposure to RAG architectures, specifically textual RAG use cases
