Your Role
- Perform deterministic safety assessments for plant systems, including heat transport system (HTS), containment, and severe‑accident progression.
- Analyze postulated accidents using state‑of‑the‑art methodologies and computer codes.
- Develop safety‑analysis approaches, including analysis‑basis plans and reports for assigned tasks.
- Execute assignments independently, ensuring work aligns with project requirements and expected outcomes.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering phases of major or large‑scope projects requiring initiative and independent judgment.
- Address complex engineering challenges such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitable materials, and difficult coordination needs.
- Assess the feasibility and soundness of engineering methods, applying broad discipline knowledge and providing technically accurate, well‑reasoned recommendations.
Qualifications
- A relevant honors degree in engineering or science with 1–8 years of relevant experience (advanced degree research and coursework may be considered).
- Conversant with computer environments; proficiency in Linux and Windows is a strong asset.
- Broad knowledge of thermal‑fluid sciences (fluid flow, heat transfer, multi‑phase flow and thermodynamics).
- Familiarity and experience with safety and licensing computer codes such as CATHENA, NUCIRC, ADDAM, GOTHIC, and MAAP.
- Proficiency in programming, especially FORTRAN, is desirable.
- Good knowledge of the CANDU design, particularly the HTS and plant control, containment and moderator systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, quickly responding to changing project needs.
- Demonstrated initiative while working in a team environment.
- Ability to work within budget and schedule constraints.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for meetings and workshops.
- Full commitment to working in a formal QA environment.
