Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

This is a challenging position within the Climate Team at the British Embassy in Brasilia. The job is based in Brasilia. If necessary, it is possible to consider other posts as RJ, SP, REC and BH.

The Climate Team fosters collaboration between Brazil and the UK through high-level meetings, visits, missions, and programmes.

The jobholder will also have a key role of supporting Policy and Programme Team leads on activities related to the Partnership for Green and Inclusive Growth the UK and Brazil governments launched in 2023. The jobholder will initially have a special focus on the pillar two (Forests) of the partnership: Fostering biodiversity goals, combatting deforestation, tackling illegal gold supply chains, promoting socio-bio economy and non-timber products, with a view to promote the rights and engagement of indigenous peoples and local communities.

Roles and responsibilities
- Monitoring and Reporting - Monitor key policy developments with an initial focus on deforestation control, forestry legislation, social environmental developments, indigenous and traditional communities. Drive collective reports in collaboration with the team and other relevant Embassy departments, contribute to the team´s monthly reports and produce relevant flash reports.
- Knowledge Management - Support development and implementation of knowledge management mechanisms for the Climate team, such as core scripts and briefs.
- Stakeholder Management - Support the consolidation of a strong network of key government contacts & stakeholders for the UK in Brazil in the climate and environment agenda, gathering knowledge of the roles they play in improving the agendas to be the focuses of this role.
- Missions, Visits and Events - Coordinate and implement events related to climate policy (e.g. visits, seminars and events), including its logistics, attendance management and reporting, with the support of the Climate Analyst and Intern. Comms - Support the Comms team in validating contents to social media and interviews.
- Events and Comms - Coordinate and implement events related to the mentioned priority agendas of the role (e.g. visits, seminars and events), including its logistics, attendance management and reporting, with the support of the Climate Intern. Comms - Support the Comms team in validating contents to social media and interviews.
- Support the UK-Brazil Partnership for Green and Inclusive Growth, inputting on its long-term strategy and monitoring working plans that substantiates the UK & Brazil bilateral cooperation.
- Support the policy lead on promoting activities for the Race to Zero community and coordinate contact with the campaign partners on the implementation of a roadmap of activities on the pathway to COP27. Support the analyst on monitoring signatories and gathering and updating data on participants and its commitments.
- Hold a corporate responsibility objective, which contributes to the wider corporate agenda of the Brazil Network.
- Support the Policy and Programme Team leads on priority activities and in coordinating a cross cutting strategy between ICF programmes in Brazil and the team policy priorities and objectives (and vice-versa).

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- University degree in a related field (Climate and Environment Science, International Relations, Political Science, Anthropology, etc);
- At least 2 years of working experience/research with the agendas covered by the role on: national/state governments, international organisations, agencies and/or NGO’s, or universities.
- Strong understanding of the Brazilian political framework on federal level both Congress and on Executive, especially around the Ministries of Environment and Climate Change and the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Portuguese.
- Proven research and reporting skills.
- Able to deal with multiple tasks and priorities.
- Problem-solving, attention to detail.
