Associate Controller Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Associate Controller to join our team at Wise. As a key member of our finance team, you will play a crucial role in helping us grow our finance capabilities and ensure compliance with accounting, regulatory, and tax requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Accounting team, Regional Controllers, and Risk teams to build compliant and accurate financial reporting automatically from source systems.
  • Develop accounting scripts for new products in regions, bringing local expertise to the Finance Team.
  • Work with Finance teams to provide financial data during regulatory and financial audits.
  • Help the Regional Finance team in performing day-to-day overview of legal entities, including analyzing financial results and ensuring necessary financial controls are performed.
  • Work with finance teams to ensure financial systems, controls, and processes are prepared for LatAM regional requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience with emphasis on accounting, overall financial statements analysis, and regulatory reporting.
  • Knowledge of local accounting standards and strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Proven experience with conciliations, depreciations, and constructing financial controls, running accounting closings.
  • Experience working with internal or external stakeholders, communicating reports, definitions, requirements, etc.
  • Experience working in a financial services industry.
  • Previous experience within Financial Institutions or having banking companies as clients.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.

Skills

  • Advanced financial reporting and analysis skills.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Able to communicate complex issues to all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with ability to organize own work.
  • Ability to move beyond Excel and dig into raw data.
  • Understanding of finance and accounting terminology and tax and regulatory rules & frameworks.
