Senior Scholarship Administrator

• About the Role:

1. The Senior Associate Director of Scholarships will be responsible for directing scholarship administration, awarding, and operations for Enrollment Management. This includes providing direct and operational support for scholarship awarding for academic schools and departments, partner scholarship programs, and enrollment management units.
2. The successful candidate will assume a lead role in developing and implementing core functions guiding and supporting scholarship operations and policies within the Office of Financial Aid at Howard University.
3. This position will work collaboratively with senior leadership in Enrollment Management, campus partners, colleagues at other campuses, and external partners to contribute to deliberations concerning priorities, modifications, customer service enhancements, and best practices.
4. The Senior Associate Director of Scholarships will provide departmental leadership for scholarship awarding systems, which award over $175M annually.

• This includes designing, implementing, and evaluating business processes for scholarship programs for campus and external constituents consistent with the campus academic agenda.
• The Senior Associate Director of Scholarships will ensure the campus presents a coordinated, integrated, and progressive business model.
• This position will administer and award state, institutional, and external scholarships managed by the Office of Financial Aid, ensuring fiscal management, oversight, and donor intent compliance.
• The Senior Associate Director of Scholarships will manage fiscal operations of scholarship accounts and provide senior leadership of premier external scholarship programs.
• This individual will select scholarship recipients for institution-wide scholarship programs.
• The Senior Associate Director of Scholarships will make operational and fiscal decisions requiring high-level judgment, impacting a large population of students.
• This position will manage highly complex processes related to fiscal management, external relationship management, and project/process leadership, directly supporting the Director and Deputy Director of Financial Aid and serving as functional proxy when needed.
• The Senior Associate Director of Scholarships will interpret scholarship eligibility and opportunities to numerous audiences, exercising independent judgment regarding scholarship eligibility.
• This position will work with the offices of Financial Aid, Student Recruitment, Admissions, Bursars, Development, the academic colleges and schools, and the University Wide Scholarship Committee.
• Counseling students and families regarding all matters pertaining to financial aid, including verification, satisfactory academic progress, award processing, timelines, disbursement, and general eligibility requirements.

About You:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader who can develop and implement effective scholarship operations and policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial aid, scholarship administration, and program management.

• Key Qualifications:

1. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as higher education, finance, or business administration.
2. At least 5 years of experience in financial aid, scholarship administration, or a related field.
3. Demonstrated expertise in scholarship operations, policy development, and program management.
4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
5. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
6. Skill in budget development, fiscal management, and resource allocation.
7. Experience with Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel, Word, and Access.
