Environmental and Social Compliance Specialist

The role encompasses a range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Conducting timely evaluations of relevant environmental and social frameworks within member countries and identifying discrepancies with the NDB's established standards.
- Analyzing projects in accordance with national environmental and social regulations, as well as the Bank's Environmental and Social Framework, providing essential insights to project teams to ensure that environmental goals are integrated into project designs, thereby enhancing developmental outcomes.
- Evaluating environmental and social risks associated with the planning and execution of sensitive infrastructure projects, assisting clients in conducting impact assessments, and preparing mitigation strategies while reviewing these assessments and plans.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental and social regulations and documentation for assigned projects throughout their preparation and execution phases.
- Participating in project processing and review missions to oversee the implementation of environmental and social impact mitigation strategies.
- Collaborating with stakeholders in member countries, including multilateral development banks, governmental agencies, and other partners, to exchange best practices and advance the Bank's commitment to sustainable development.
- Contributing to initiatives aimed at enhancing client knowledge related to the NDB's Environmental and Social Framework.
- Overseeing land acquisition and involuntary resettlement processes for projects in the preparatory and implementation stages.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of consultation processes in accordance with national systems in member states and ensuring the execution of resettlement action plans for projects.
- Monitoring and analyzing evolving environmental and social practices in both public and private sectors to inform relevant initiatives and disseminate knowledge within the Bank.
- Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned periodically.
- A minimum of 5 years of pertinent professional experience in a multilateral development bank, national project finance institution, environmental agency, social and environmental consulting, or relevant public or private sector organization.
- Familiarity with the infrastructure sector in member countries, along with a comprehensive understanding of the associated environmental and social laws, policies, procedures, and systems.
- Expertise in environmental and social policies, regulations, and legislation in member countries and other emerging economies, with demonstrated experience in managing compliance for projects.
- Proven experience in facilitating stakeholder engagement processes.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment that promotes teamwork and collaboration.
- Willingness to engage in field activities as necessary.
- A Master's Degree or equivalent in a relevant field, preferably in Environmental or Social Sciences, Engineering, or Natural Resource Management, from a recognized institution.
