Job Title: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Canonical, a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets, is seeking an experienced Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our team.

Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and specify new features, building consensus on approach to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
  • Engage with upstream communities in your area of expertise to drive innovation and excellence.
  • Conduct thorough security analysis and reviews to ensure defence in depth and protect our users.
  • Create and monitor performance benchmarks to optimise your product and improve overall user experience.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Write high-quality code to create new features and deliver them efficiently.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them promptly.
  • Review code produced by other engineers to maintain the highest standards.
Requirements:
  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, demonstrating a strong foundation in computer science or related field.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path to a career in technology.
  • Drive and a track record of consistently going above-and-beyond expectations to deliver exceptional results.
  • Experience working on open-source virt or container tech, with a focus on scalability and reliability.
  • Experience working in the kernel or very low-level system, with a deep understanding of system architecture and design.
  • Professional written and spoken English, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred), with a strong understanding of system administration and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability, with a passion for learning and growth.
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation, with a desire to make a meaningful impact in the industry.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas simply and effectively.
  • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments and deliver outstanding results.
