Senior Communication Systems Specialist

The Senior Communication Systems Specialist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of communication systems at USAP stations. This role involves ensuring the smooth functioning of various communication networks, including land mobile radio systems, microwave backhaul communications, handheld radios, pagers, VHF wireline, and UHF radiotelephones.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement project schedules to assign tasks to team members.
  • Provide technical leadership to communication technicians in matters related to system operation and maintenance.
  • Prepare management progress and project status reports to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Supervisor to design, develop, and implement communication projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by implementing and enforcing safety protocols.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; continued education in technical courses related to communication electronics is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as leadership ability, are essential.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in maintaining radio communication systems is required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment down to the component level is necessary.
  • At least two years of experience in a lead or supervisory role is required for external candidates, or significant supervisory inclinations on the job for internal candidates.
Benefits:
  • Deployment to Antarctica will be required at the discretion of management.
  • Individuals must successfully complete physical and dental examinations as required by NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
  • Must be able to work in potentially stressful and cold environments with six months of daylight.
