The Role of the Lead Architect

As a Lead Platform Architect within our Maersk Technology Team, you will embody the following attributes:

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and develop intricate, highly available, distributed, cloud-native solutions while ensuring top-notch quality.
  2. Engineer robust systems that are secure, scalable, and consistently accessible.
  3. Oversee essential design or technical assessments for the product, leveraging expertise in open-source libraries.
  4. Guide architectural and design initiatives with a strong emphasis on scalability, performance, and dependability.
  5. Lead and mentor during design and code evaluations to improve user experience, performance, scalability, maintainability, and future growth potential.
  6. Champion the integration of new technologies and design methodologies to enhance product usability.
  7. Possess relevant DevOps knowledge to initiate projects from the ground up or assist with existing setups, including tools and strategies such as branching and code reviews.
  8. Provide technical support during transition activities and troubleshoot production challenges.
  9. Suggest continuous enhancements for internal coding frameworks, best practices, and guidelines.
  10. Hold strong convictions and well-founded opinions on RESTful API design, covering aspects like API versioning, backward compatibility, authentication, retries, and rate limiting.
  11. Drive the adoption of innovative technologies and superior design practices to ensure our products excel in usability.
  12. Actively engage in team enhancements, cross-team knowledge-sharing initiatives, and Centers of Excellence forums.
  13. Advise Product Owners on identifying and managing risks, technical debt, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  14. Provide guidance to fellow architects and senior engineers, offering the necessary technical support.
  15. Navigate through uncertainties and deliver results promptly.
  16. Serve as a technical leader for a globally distributed team, fostering effective collaboration.

Key Technical Skills

  1. Java programming: with profound knowledge of OOP principles, design patterns, and advanced features such as concurrency, multithreading, and performance optimization.
  2. Spring Framework: Expertise in Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and other Spring modules for efficient enterprise application development.
  3. Front-End Technologies: Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and popular frameworks like React or Angular for crafting user interfaces.
  4. Microservices Architecture: Familiarity with microservices principles and experience in designing and developing microservices-based applications.
  5. Data Architecture: Expertise in data modeling, database design, and data management strategies.
  6. Databases: Proficiency in relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cosmos) for effective data management.
  7. Security: In-depth knowledge of security best practices, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and vulnerability assessment.
  8. Web Services: Proficient in RESTful API design, development, and consumption, along with experience in SOAP-based web services.
  9. Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and specialization in Microsoft Azure App services and Azure Cloud environments.
  10. Experience with API Gateways and integrations (Apigee, Akana, Akamai).
  11. Develop effective unit and integration test cases using JUnit, Mockito.
  12. Containerized Deployment – Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, AWS ECS.
  13. Logging Stack – Elasticsearch, Splunk, Kibana.
  14. Monitoring Tool - Prometheus, Alert Manager, Grafana.
  15. DevOps: Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes for streamlined software delivery.
  16. Performance Optimization: Capability to identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies.
  17. Desirable: Experience in developing distributed service architecture, Hexagonal architecture & familiarity with BDD and TDD methodologies and tools.
