Job Overview

This role is for a technical leader to oversee and manage our Sustaining Engineering team.

About the Role

The Sustaining Engineering team continuously enhances various open source software by resolving software defects reported by customers. We work on everything from the kernel all the way up to user space applications and IaaS platforms. As a manager, you will be responsible for leading one of our regional teams and working closely with other managers who report directly to the global Director of Sustaining Engineering.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills and a solid background in software development. You will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, provide feedback, and career development guidance to your team members.
  • Manage and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) and training requirements.
  • Support timely delivery of bug fixes, patches, and other technical solutions to address business needs in various technology fields.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in interactions with clients.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Professional experience in software delivery using C, C++, Go, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about software development methodologies.
  • Leadership experience displaying ability to organize and prioritize complex problem resolution and bug fixes.
  • Experience with version control systems such as git.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with Linux, with a preference towards Ubuntu.
