Mainframe Infrastructure Architect

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Infrastructure Architect to lead the design and implementation of hybrid IT architectures that integrate mainframe, distributed systems, and cloud platforms.

This key role will be instrumental in driving modernization strategies that bridge legacy mainframe workloads with modern digital platforms, enabling seamless integration and secure data exchange.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in z/OS, hybrid cloud integration, and enterprise architecture strategy, with experience in leading cross-functional teams to assess current infrastructure and define future-state architecture.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing hybrid IT architectures that integrate mainframe, distributed systems, and cloud platforms.
  • Developing and executing modernization strategies, including rehost, refactor, replatform, and replace approaches.
  • Enabling legacy systems through APIs (e.g., z/OS Connect) and facilitating secure, scalable integration with modern platforms.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to assess current infrastructure and define future-state architecture.
  • Evaluating and recommending tools and vendors for mainframe modernization initiatives.

Required skills and qualifications include:

Mainframe Core Knowledge
  • Deep expertise in z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, RACF security, understanding of mainframe subsystems: CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ, VSAM.
Modernization & Migration Strategies
  • Experience with mainframe-to-cloud migration approaches, designing hybrid architectures, API enablement of legacy systems, legacy data modernization.
Infrastructure & Integration
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud) in hybrid IT.
Tools & Modernization Enablers
  • Familiarity with mainframe emulators, modern SCM tools, and change management tools.
Security & Governance
  • Strong grasp of mainframe security, designing secure APIs and encrypted data exchange.
Enterprise Architecture & Strategy
  • Building roadmaps for legacy modernization, vendor/tool evaluation for modernization.
