Job Purpose

As an Assistant Breeder, you will play a key role in the development of new vegetable varieties, working closely with our Breeder to design and implement breeding programs that meet the company's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and Development
    • Assist in the optimization of breeding programs to ensure efficient and effective development of new varieties.
    • Design and implement new technologies and breeding methods to improve breeding efficiency.
  • Information Management
    • Develop and maintain accurate and detailed breeding records and reports.
    • Provide data analysis and insights to inform breeding decisions.
  • Breeding Trials
    • Design and plan breeding trials to test new varieties and breeding methods.
    • Implement, execute, and evaluate breeding trials to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Seed Management
    • Manage the increase and maintenance of basic stock seed to ensure availability and quality.
  • Administration and Coordination
    • Manage breeding administration and coordinate activities with the breeding team.
    • Provide technical advice and support to team members.
  • Market Knowledge and Insights
    • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of market demands and trends.
    • Translate market insights into breeding goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in horticulture, plant breeding, genetics, or a related field.
  • Skills and Experience
    • Working knowledge of horticultural practices and procedures, genetics, and plant breeding.
    • Few years of experience in plant breeding.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Computer skills, including management information systems, databases, and spreadsheets.

Language

English is the primary language of communication in this role.
