Job Title: Product Packaging Development Specialist

 

Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative packaging solutions for product development projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute project initiatives.
  • Research and evaluate package options, manage project timelines and risks, produce prototypes, conduct tests, integrate manufacturing processes, engage suppliers, and facilitate communications.
  • Create comprehensive packaging specifications reflecting materials that can be produced consistently and run efficiently on packaging lines.
  • Design and execute experimental testing to predict package performance, durability, reliability, and consumer function.
  • Stay informed about market and consumer trends in packaging, identifying opportunities to align product portfolios with cutting-edge packaging concepts and methods.
  • Partner with suppliers, R&D, Quality, Operations, Manufacturing & Finance to drive packaging-centric continuous improvement projects focused on enhancing quality, reducing costs, and increasing capacity.
  • Troubleshoot packaging issues on production lines to assist in identifying and implementing solutions.
  • Communicate the implications of material and structure changes to manufacturing plants and co-manufacturers, ensuring appropriate testing and successful introduction.

 

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Package Engineering or a related technical discipline (required).
  • Minimum 8-10 years of packaging development and project management experience within a cross-functional team in the Food and Beverage industry (preferred).
  • Applied knowledge in areas of corrugated, paperboard cartons, labels, flexibles/laminates, various print methods, and/or thermoforms for wet/refrigerated products.
  • Knowledge of refrigerated distribution, modified atmosphere packaging, SQF.
  • Experience writing packaging specifications.
  • Proficiency in ArtiosCAD and TOPS Pro software.
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to self-direct and take constructive action in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Quality-oriented mindset, strong sense of urgency, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Position will be based at our Bethlehem PA facility.
  • Domestic travel is expected to be around 10-20%.
