Position Overview
We are seeking a Lead Risk Engineer specializing in Engineering & Construction (E&C) to become a vital part of our Property & Specialty division in the Latin American (LatAm) sector. This role involves providing expert technical guidance to our Engineering & Construction underwriters and their clientele throughout the region.
Your responsibilities will include advising underwriters on risk assessment, loss projections, and preventative measures pertinent to our E&C portfolio. This entails evaluating, interpreting, and summarizing submissions, including third-party technical risk assessments. Additionally, you will conduct on-site risk evaluations and progress assessments to confirm our clients' risk mitigation strategies and offer recommendations for risk enhancement. This position requires close collaboration with underwriters and various internal and external stakeholders. As a member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) team, you will be recognized as an authority in this specialized industry. This opportunity allows you to engage in diverse projects and publications focusing on best practices, guidelines, technological advancements, and industry insights. This role encompasses global responsibilities, and our team comprises individuals from a wide array of backgrounds, making it essential for you to thrive in an international setting.Team Dynamics
The RES E&C team is integrated within RES Energy and currently consists of three engineers and an additional contractor based in EMEA, one in North America (NA), and one in Asia Pacific (APAC). Our objective is to expand this team to approximately twelve to thirteen members in the coming years.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a Civil Engineer with the following qualifications:
Proven experience in the civil construction sector (including tunnels, bridges, and civil infrastructure). A minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction field (covering design, project leadership, site management, and commissioning). Practical project experience in significant infrastructure, residential, and industrial initiatives. Formal training or coursework in project management. Strong familiarity with project control tools (scheduling, cost management, procurement). Comprehensive understanding of the Insurance E&C landscape. Previous experience as an insurance risk engineer with a broker, insurance firm, or loss adjuster is advantageous. Interest or experience in loss prevention areas (such as fire safety, water damage, and technical risk management). Solid knowledge of building codes, regulations, and loss prevention and fire safety standards (e.g., NFPA or equivalent). Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, coupled with an entrepreneurial mindset and a service-oriented approach. A collaborative team player with a high analytical capacity and attention to detail. Willingness to travel internationally.
