Job Description

The Senior Technical Manager will assist the district's bridge inspection team leader on a full-time basis with business development and winning bridge inspection and repair work for transportation agencies.

  • Plan, schedule, and perform bridge inspections in accordance with specific bridge owners' requirements, ensuring compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges.
  • Liaison with client staff, communicate critical condition findings, and direct other field team members.
  • Enforce safe operations in the field.
  • Create or review all required inspection reports.
  • Ensure technical compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding resources and conduct, adhering to related policies and procedures.
  • Support the district and national bridge inspection group in performing bridge, ancillary, culvert inspections as required.
  • Prepare proposals, tasks, reports, and other documents.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of experience in bridge inspection (NBIS) with transportation clients.
  • Project Manager/Team Leader in multiple states.
  • Successful management of bridge inspection projects for transportation agencies.
  • Attendance of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course and additional mandated courses/trainings.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight, providing guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, adhering to QA/QC.
  • Physically capable of performing continuous field work, including working at heights and in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented structure.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and direct the work of team members.
  • Cognizant of time and budget management.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
