Backend Systems Engineer

This position involves developing and maintaining backend services that power location-based features.
Our ideal candidate is a skilled builder who can take ownership of projects, unblock themselves, and care about getting things done.
- A strong understanding of systems, trade-offs, and long-term maintainability is required.
- The ability to work in an early-stage environment where priorities shift quickly is essential.
- Candidates should be pragmatic and write clean code, but also know when to prioritize shipping over polishing.
We're looking for someone who can communicate clearly and defend or adapt their technical decisions.
The tech stack includes NestJS (Node.js), TypeScript, AWS (Elastic Beanstalk, SNS, S3, Lambda), Next.js (ISR, Streaming), AWS, Cloudflare, Vercel, GitHub Actions, Expo, React Native, real-time data platforms, chat, video platforms, and more.
Key Responsibilities- Design APIs and data flows that are efficient, reliable, and easy to integrate on mobile and web.
- Build and maintain scraper infrastructure (cron jobs, site parsers, normalization, deduplication) to feed our event database.
- Architect and implement feed systems (fanout, ranking, filtering) for building real-time, personalized timelines similar to Instagram or Twitter.
- Integrate with third-party APIs and services (e.g. chat, maps, video, etc…).
- Collaborate closely with the team on product direction and system design.
- Improve internal tools and workflows to reduce manual work and scale operations.
