Position Overview

ProVeg Brazil is a newly formed non-profit organization headquartered in São Paulo, dedicated to advancing ProVeg's mission of reshaping the global food landscape by aiming to replace 50% of animal products worldwide with plant-based and cultivated alternatives by 2040.

The Public Policy Manager plays a crucial role in driving our ambitious campaigns aimed at reducing animal consumption, aligning with our core values of Pro-Health, Environment, Animals, Justice, and Taste in Brazil. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator and organizer, possessing a positive and professional demeanor, with a proven track record in fostering relationships and advocating initiatives with policymakers, non-profits, and civil society. This position is newly created as ProVeg enhances its initiatives in Brazil, requiring adaptability and flexibility in response to evolving political landscapes and public sentiment.

The Public Policy Manager will primarily report to the Country Director at ProVeg Brazil and will collaborate closely with various departments, particularly the international UN team, in relation to the upcoming COP30 initiatives. The successful candidate will also engage with partner organizations, nurturing these relationships to build effective coalitions. Responsibilities include representing ProVeg in media interactions, engaging with policymakers, and identifying opportunities for advancing new policies, regulations, and legislative proposals at both national and UNFCCC levels.

Key Responsibilities

Public Policy Development (50%)

  • Formulate the public affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with external stakeholders, enhancing engagement with policymakers, environmental organizations, healthcare leaders, and scientific communities.
  • Coordinate relations with governmental bodies and private sector organizations, representing ProVeg in various committees and working groups.
  • Lead campaigns aimed at promoting food system transformation and elevating the status of plant-based alternatives.
  • Compile and manage a database of relevant law bills and regulations in Brazil, creating online content related to this area.
  • Stay informed on political developments and regulatory activities, providing analysis on opportunities and threats to inform strategic planning.
  • Deliver expert briefings and execute targeted public affairs campaigns to influence regulatory and private sector actions.
  • Represent ProVeg at various events, delivering speeches as needed.
  • Organize talks, press conferences, and networking events, and engage with the media.
  • Support fundraising efforts by assisting in the drafting of grant proposals and donor reports related to policy activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners to integrate relevant research and scientific advancements into policy considerations.

COP30 Initiatives (40%)

  • Monitor UNFCCC policy developments, identifying emerging issues and proposing solutions.
  • Collaborate with ProVeg's International UN team to strategize and implement initiatives for COP30, including organizing events and advocating for plant-based catering.

Public Relations & Communications (10%)

  • Enhance ProVeg's visibility through compelling content creation for various platforms, including social media and mainstream media.
  • Establish and manage relationships with media representatives and influencers to secure coverage and opportunities for ProVeg spokespeople.
  • Research and produce content related to public policy and COP for ProVeg's communication channels.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in International Studies, Politics, Law, or Public Affairs.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in developing policy outputs and advocating for social sector, food, or environmental change.
  • Experience advising senior colleagues on complex policy matters.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with UN programs and agendas.
  • Strong background in engaging with government officials and external stakeholders.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel for work, both nationally and internationally.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of current environmental and food industry agendas within the UN context.
  • Experience in the NGO sector.
  • Knowledge of performance metrics and KPIs for tracking policy engagement.
  • Experience in campaign planning and communications.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
