Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets.Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT.We have a global, distributed team of over 1200 colleagues in more than 80 countries, with few office-based roles.Teams meet periodically in person at locations worldwide to align on strategy and execution.Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading a distributed engineering team in your time zone
  • Talent development through coaching, mentoring, and career planning
  • Managing expectations with other teams, management, and stakeholders
  • Promoting modern software development practices
  • Participating in code and architecture reviews
  • Engaging with broader teams, open source community, and partners
  • Traveling for global events (4-6 weeks per year)
The ideal candidate will possess strong academic background and a degree in a technical field. Confidence in communication and feedback exchange is also essential.Leadership and mentorship skills are critical, along with passion for technology and personal projects. A work ethic and confidence working with motivated colleagues are also required.Excellent English communication skills, experience with Linux (Debian/Ubuntu preferred), interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability, appreciation for diversity and multicultural work environments, self-motivation, thoughtfulness, result-oriented mindset, ability to meet commitments, willingness to travel internationally twice a year, understanding of modern Linux cloud technologies (networking, storage, containers, K8s) and programming experience in Python and Go are highly valued.Requirements:
