Dean of Student Affairs

Howard University is dedicated to fostering well-being and professional growth among its employees. The Talent Acquisition department plays a crucial role in hiring qualified candidates to fill positions that contribute to the institution's strategic success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to student affairs and college processes, maintaining the highest level of integrity.
  • Act as an advocate for all students in college-wide matters, maintaining an open-door policy that encourages communication and trust.
  • Collaborate with the Office of University Student Affairs and other schools and colleges on campus, promoting a culture of collaboration and shared goals.
  • Develop and implement enrollment and recruitment strategies, providing regular reports to the dean on progress and results.
  • Oversee admissions, recruitment, and enrollment processes, ensuring alignment with university policies and procedures that promote fairness and equality.
  • Provide recommendations to appropriate parties regarding needed resources and support for academic progression, focusing on student success and retention.
  • Facilitate communication between faculty, staff, and students through regular meetings and workshops, promoting a culture of mutual respect and understanding.
Requirements:
  • PharmD degree preferred; PhD or EdD in education, administration, or a healthcare-related field considered essential for the role.
  • Minimum 5 years of administrative experience in higher education for health sciences, with a proven track record of success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and strong relationships with students, families, and community partners.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and adaptability to new conditions, assignments, and deadlines, with a focus on prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment, building coalitions and partnerships that advance the institution's mission.
  • Problem-solving, research, and analytical skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data to inform decision-making.
  • Background in FERPA, Title IX, and accreditation standards (e.g., ACPE), with a commitment to upholding ethical standards and best practices.
