Job Overview

Epic Games is seeking an experienced Technical Artist Lead to manage and mentor a team of technical artists. This role involves providing art direction and feedback on tasks, optimizing art content for performance across multiple platforms, and collaborating with gameplay engineers and designers to create and implement new technical features.

• Manage and mentor a team of technical artists
• Provide art direction and feedback on tasks
• Optimize art content to ensure features are performant on all supported platforms
• Collaborate with art leads to create shader and blueprint solutions for complex assets
• Work with production to plan, scope, and provide estimates for tasks and create tickets in Shotgun
• Collaborate with gameplay engineers and designers in executing new complex, technical gameplay features from start to finish

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills and qualifications:

• Strong experience with Unreal Engine or other real-time game engine technologies
• Skilled in authoring materials and shaders using node-based graph editors or HLSL
• Proficient in Blueprints and other programming or scripting languages
• Proven leadership as a departmental lead, managing technical artists and collaborating closely with all art departments
• Proficiency with 3D modeling tools such as 3ds Max, Maya, or similar software
• Experienced in texture creation using tools like Substance Designer and Substance Painter
• Hands-on experience with procedural modeling and simulation tools, such as Houdini
• Expertise in optimizing art and gameplay content across multiple platforms (console, Switch, mobile)
