About the Role
The Associate Environmental Health and Safety Officer is an entry-level position within the Environmental Health and Safety job family, responsible for providing support in the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct surveys and assessments to identify hazardous conditions affecting workers, property, the environment, and the general public, and develop measures to eliminate these.
- Assist with surveying and investigating working conditions, determining causes, and recommending actions to prevent further incidents or accidents.
- Provide advice on practical steps to ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing EHS matters.
- Conduct risk assessments and related audits to mitigate organizational liability against relevant laws and regulations.
- Support new employee health and safety orientation.
- Conduct safety training and education programs with existing employees, including demonstrating the use of safety equipment.
- Assist with coordinating and attending related committee meetings.
- Work closely with external stakeholders, including local authorities, communities, hospitals, and disaster management groups, to develop, maintain, and update emergency response plans and procedures.
- May act as evacuation marshal, fire marshal, and/or incident coordinator.
- Perform other EHS activities as required by management.
Requirements:
- Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in a related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental certification(s) essential.
- Entry-level experience with environmental health and safety issues in a related industry/environment.
- Entry-level experience dealing with a variety of stakeholders and influencing decision-making to manage business risk.
- Entry-level knowledge of environmental, health, and safety laws, regulations, codes, and standards and their application and interpretation.
