The British Embassy in Brasilia is seeking applications from students who are currently in their third semester or beyond for a part-time internship within the Trade & Economics team. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage in a dynamic and impactful environment.
About the Trade & Economics Team:
The UK's Brazil Network encompasses the Embassy in Brasilia and various consulates, focusing on political, economic, climate, trade, and commercial initiatives. Our teams collaborate to enhance the strategic partnership between the UK and Brazil, fostering trade relations, ensuring security, and addressing shared climate challenges while upholding our values and promoting human rights.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assist in the analysis and reporting of significant macroeconomic, political, and international trade matters in Brazil, with an emphasis on research.
- Collect and present qualitative and quantitative economic data in both written and graphical formats.
- Draft regular economic reports detailing key macroeconomic trends in Brazil.
- Research and document recent developments in the economic reform agenda.
- Maintain and update a comprehensive database of essential facts and figures regarding the Brazilian economy and trade.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on the Brazilian economy to stakeholders in both Brazil and the UK.
- Support the team's multilateral policy initiatives, particularly concerning G20 and WTO matters.
- Contribute to achieving the UK's broader economic, trade, and political goals in Brazil.
- Regularly update the stakeholder map for the team.
- Coordinate meetings, assist in organizing visits and events, and liaise with key stakeholders, including governmental departments.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Economics or International Relations, with at least three semesters completed.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills in both English and Portuguese.
- Proficient in written communication and computer skills, particularly in Excel.
- Excellent research capabilities.
- Ability to perform administrative tasks effectively.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English and Portuguese.
- Legal authorization to live and work in Brazil independently.
Language Proficiency:
Fluency in Portuguese and English is required, including the ability to produce reports for senior audiences in English.
Desirable Attributes:
- Solid understanding of the Brazilian economy and its trade/economic policies.
- Confidence in conducting original economic analysis.
- Familiarity with public economic and trade databases.
- Awareness of the functions of multilateral organizations, particularly the WTO and G20.
Key Competencies:
Effective communication and influence, delivering results efficiently, managing quality services, and collaborative teamwork.
