Position Overview
We are seeking a Lead Risk Engineer specialized in Engineering & Construction (E&C) to become a vital part of our Property & Specialty division in the Latin American (LatAm) sector. In this role, you will provide expert technical guidance to our E&C underwriters and their clientele across the region.
Your responsibilities will include advising underwriters on risk quality, estimating potential losses, and recommending loss prevention strategies for our E&C portfolio. This involves analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing submissions, including third-party technical risk assessments. You will also conduct on-site risk evaluations and progress assessments to validate our clients' risk mitigation strategies and offer suggestions for improvement. As a key member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) team, you will leverage your expertise in this specialized industry to contribute to various initiatives and publications focused on best practices, guidelines, technological advancements, and industry insights. This position entails global responsibilities, and our team comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, making it essential for you to thrive in an international setting.Team Dynamics
The RES E&C team operates within the RES Energy division and currently includes three engineers and one contractor in EMEA, one in North America (NA), and one in Asia Pacific (APAC). Our objective is to expand this team to approximately twelve to thirteen members in the coming years.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a Civil Engineer with the following qualifications:
Proven experience in the civil construction sector (e.g., tunnels, bridges, civil infrastructure, residential projects); A minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction field (including roles such as design engineer, project lead, site manager, or commissioning engineer); Hands-on experience with significant infrastructure, residential, and industrial projects; Relevant project management training or certifications; Strong proficiency in project control tools (e.g., scheduling, cost management, procurement); Comprehensive understanding of the Insurance E&C landscape; Previous experience as an insurance risk engineer at a brokerage, insurance firm, or loss adjusting company is advantageous; Interest or experience in loss prevention topics (e.g., fire safety, water damage, technical risk management); Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and loss prevention standards (e.g., NFPA or equivalent); Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, along with an entrepreneurial mindset and service-oriented approach; Strong collaborative spirit; High analytical capabilities and attention to detail; Willingness to travel internationally; Language proficiency: Portuguese/Spanish and English (essential), with additional languages being a plus.About Swiss Re Corporate Solutions
