Leadership Role in Software Engineering

The Software Engineering Manager role is a leadership position that oversees technical teams responsible for delivering and maintaining Linux kernels.

This role requires experience managing high-performing software development teams and a strong background in software engineering. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Linux and committed to contributing to its distribution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead distributed teams of software engineers in various aspects of delivery for all Linux kernels.
  • Take ownership of specific aspects of Ubuntu, including working with silicon or cloud partners, ensuring wide hardware platform support, defining quality control standards, mitigating security threats, and implementing process automation.
  • Engage with other teams, the open-source community, and commercial partners.
Requirements:
  • Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other similar languages highly regarded.
  • Substantial experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts, Linux preferred but not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading software engineering teams.
  • Ability to coordinate between multiple teams with differing technical focus.
  • Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git.
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience highly regarded.
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
