The Team:
The Portfolio Valuations & Monitoring team operates on a global scale, with members located in key financial hubs. This team provides Senior Management with timely analytics and strategic valuation support for portfolio companies. Regular engagement with senior executives at these companies is essential to discuss significant performance updates.
Position Overview:
SoftBank Investment Advisers is on the lookout for a passionate and seasoned Vice President of Portfolio Valuations to become part of our Finance team. This role is available in various international offices.
This position offers a distinctive opportunity to lend valuation expertise within a vibrant corporate venture capital setting. You will collaborate closely with a forward-thinking senior management team on strategic investments, performance oversight, and the valuation of our investments, primarily targeting growth-stage, premier technology firms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and uphold valuation models in alignment with SBIA's global valuation standards, primarily utilizing Anaplan.
- Analyze and monitor the performance of assigned investments, providing essential support to assist SBIA Senior Management in decision-making processes.
- Continuously track current business, industry, and economic trends that may influence Fund performance.
- Prepare, disseminate, and present data-driven analytics at the portfolio level to SBIA Senior Management.
- Prepare, review, and discuss materials as part of the Investment Risk-led Portfolio Review process.
- Enhance and maintain the Fund's proprietary technology platforms, focusing on automation and operational excellence.
- Foster strong relationships with executives of portfolio companies, Investment Professionals, and Senior Management.
- Manage relationships with Limited Partners by providing regular updates on Fund performance and other commercial insights.
- Evaluate pipeline companies and conduct financial due diligence for potential investments.
- Offer ad hoc support to investment teams concerning assigned investments and complex securities.
- Prepare and distribute reports and analyses in accordance with critical fund and investor reporting timelines.
- Support the year-end financial statement audit and any statutory audits, addressing follow-up inquiries from internal or external auditors related to portfolio valuations.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- BA / BSc / MSc with honors in Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field from a prestigious university.
- 4+ years of experience, preferably in Investment Banking, Big 4 Transaction Services, or Private Equity valuation.
- Proficient in building, testing, and implementing valuation models.
- Comprehensive understanding of theoretical and applied finance, including the relevant mathematical frameworks.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to confidently engage with Investment Professionals, Portfolio Companies, and Senior Management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Excel; familiarity with Bloomberg, Capital IQ, VBA, Anaplan, and PowerBI is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding, and dynamic environment.
- CFA or CPA / ACA designation is preferred but not essential.
