Commodity Risk Specialist

Our Energy Management business unit encompasses various operations, including supply, trading, and dispatch of oil, biofuels, natural gas, electricity, and environmental products. These operations aim to provide greater value across our integrated business chain by seizing commercial opportunities, maximizing the integrated margin, and navigating market volatility.

About Your Future Role

As a key member of our Risk Management & Control team, you'll be responsible for developing comprehensive risk management models, performing market risk analysis for new transactions, and establishing risk indicators and limits.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Identify, manage, oversee, mitigate, and advise commodity trading desks and origination teams on markets, operational, and control opportunities and risks;
  • Assist in identifying significant risks within the trading portfolio, ensuring transparency to senior management;
  • Build, update, and maintain an overall risk management model and policy;
  • Purpose, monitor, and report risk management limits;
  • Provide independent analysis, review, and guidance on New Business Proposals, ensuring an optimal level of risk/return;
  • Understand day-to-day drivers of price volatility and impacts on trading portfolios;
  • Perform VaR back-testing, key variables stress testing, and scenario analysis.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Science, or Engineering, or relevant workplace experience in the energy trading industry;
  • At least 4 years of experience within a trading and risk management organization, including understanding of trading, operations, risk, compliance, and front-to-back business processes, policies, procedures, and controls;
  • Understanding of financial, commodity, and energy markets, derivative instruments, and hedging techniques; Knowledge of options theory, risk of options, and trading strategies;
  • Advanced Excel user;
  • GARP certification - FRM (preferential);
  • Knowledge of ETRM systems (preferential);
  • Good judgement to provide advice, question discrepancies, and escalate issues;
  • Scientific mindset: identify, investigate, analyze, research, and discuss;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Fluent English and Portuguese, both verbally and written.
