The Opportunity

As a Design Director at Poatek, you'll have the chance to lead and mentor individual product teams across our product consulting business, which comprises over 100 designers, researchers, and strategists. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence creative direction while remaining hands-on with design work. Some travel to clients and other offices may be required.

Responsibilities

  • You'll set the tone for projects by designing seamless experiences from early ideas.
  • Provide guidance on client communication, pixel-perfect details, and more.
  • Help designers push beyond their comfort zones to create their best work.
  • Use your strategic thought process to get clients excited about Poatek's capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to orchestrate a smooth experience for clients and teams.
  • Define conceptual and visual direction for well-known brands.
  • Validate design decisions through research, user feedback, quantitative insights, and evolving best practices.
  • Build relationships with clients and navigate your team through challenges.
  • Present and articulate design decisions to clients throughout the process.
  • 70% of your time will be spent working with your project team on mission-critical projects with Fortune 500 clients.
  • 30% of your time will be spent managing individual contributors.
  • You'll manage ~5–8 direct reports.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in the design industry.
  • C1 or C2 level of English Proficiency.
  • Experience as a long-term mentor or manager to other designers.
  • Comfortable delivering growth feedback to teammates.
  • Experience shipping products that impact thousands of users, with recent experience leading design teams.
  • Solid understanding of the product development process.
  • Strong opinions about visual and user experience design, with flexibility to new perspectives.
  • A portfolio demonstrating user and business needs, creative problem-solving, and visual design mastery.
  • Ability to roll up your sleeves and push pixels when needed.
  • Experience presenting complex ideas to clients and team members.
  • Empathy for client needs and ability to bring solutions to problems.
  • Alignment with Poatek's core values and design goals.
  • Enthusiasm for tech and design convergence.
