Open Source Community Advocate Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically proficient individual who is passionate about sustainable community building and open source software development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Write high-quality content to promote and support community initiatives
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding effective solutions to community challenges
  • Work autonomously with global travel opportunities for internal and external events
  • Potential opportunity for further international travel if desired
  • Nurture community contributions to Ubuntu Linux
  • Engage with the Ubuntu community through online platforms, social media, conferences, etc.
  • Represent the community via speaking engagements at events and conferences
  • Support collaboration between Canonical teams and the open source ecosystem
Requirements:
  • Love technology and working with innovative people
  • Be curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable in your work
  • Value technical skills and be passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated
  • Have experience with developer tools and open source projects, including Ubuntu Linux
  • Have a clear public record of accomplishments (talks, blog posts, GitHub, etc.)
  • Have interest and experience with some of the following: software development, testing and QA, package management, container technology
  • Be able to work independently and assume full ownership of objectives as needed
  • Be flexible with time and enjoy working with new technology in a fast-paced environment
  • Have experience working with open source communities and understand the workflow of volunteer contributors
  • Have experience in technical program management and have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
