Mortgage Loan Underwriter Position

As a Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the mortgage loan function by performing administrative and underwriting duties. Your responsibilities will include acquiring intricate knowledge of underwriting and selling guidelines, especially those associated with the secondary market, achieving goals as established in the Bank's business objectives, coordinating work within the department, as well as with other departments, complying with operating policies and procedures established for the mortgage loan function, communicating with appropriate personnel, and maintaining appropriate records and providing assigned reports.
Key Responsibilities:- Assists with pre-qualification underwriting and loan structuring.
- Performs due diligence and underwriting once loans are under application.
- Verifies and reviews financial loan documents.
- Assesses borrower(s) credit worthiness.
- Processes and issues all required disclosures.
- Communicates changes in loan terms as necessary.
- Prepares recommendations for credit review committee or loan originators.
- Reviews loan documents for completeness.
- Assembles loan documents in loan file, including acceptance or denial and returns file to origination mortgage loan office.
- Notifies all required personnel of disposition of underwriting results.
- Performs credit analysis and approves mortgage loans within established lending authority.
- Maintains knowledge of FHA, VA, and USDA lending guidelines.
- Education/Training: An Associate Degree or equivalent knowledge normally required; specialized education/training related to mortgage lending.
- Skills: Strong communication skills; proficient interpersonal relations skills; moderate analytical skills; demonstrated organizational skills; proficient PC skills, including knowledge of loan-related software; proficient knowledge of underwriting, including credit and compliance calculation and testing; proficient knowledge of applicable lending laws and regulations, i.e., Reg B, Reg Z, and Fair Credit Reporting Act; knowledge of HUD-1 and closing documents.
- Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of related mortgage loan experience normally required.
