About the Role

Canonical is seeking an exceptional Senior Operating System Architect to drive key aspects of Ubuntu Linux.

The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of operating system kernels and distributions, as well as strong leadership skills to guide a team of engineers in delivering high-quality results.

This role entails setting technical direction, leading delivery teams, and collaborating with senior technical leadership to ensure Ubuntu remains at the forefront of Linux distributions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive engagements with key Silicon and Cloud partners to provide optimal solutions for their platforms
  • Lead the mitigation of common vulnerabilities and exposures for Ubuntu Linux, while actively hardening the kernel
  • Architect enhancements to performance and correctness to make Ubuntu Linux the most reliable and highest performing Linux kernel available today
  • Streamline the packaging and distribution of third-party components for optimal user experience
  • Develop new means to deliver Ubuntu Linux at scale, meeting strict quality standards and delivery schedules
Requirements
  • A strong background in *nix-based operating system kernels and distributions, ideally with direct Linux experience
  • Expertise in C programming language and proficiency in Python and Bash scripting
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, especially Ubuntu/Debian/Snap
  • Strong grasp of the capabilities and nuances of the git version control system
  • Ability to travel internationally for company events
