Job Description

The Linux kernel is a critical component of the Ubuntu Linux distribution, and as a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead technical teams in delivering and maintaining this essential software.

Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in various sectors, including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Your team will work closely with silicon and cloud partners to develop Linux kernels optimized for their execution environments.

You will take ownership of particular aspects of Ubuntu Linux, ensuring its ability to run on diverse hardware platforms, defining and executing quality control standards, mitigating security threats, and implementing process automation.

  • Lead distributed teams of software engineers in delivery and maintenance of Linux kernels
  • Take ownership of specific aspects of Ubuntu Linux, including kernel development and quality control
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to achieve common goals
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other similar languages
  • Substantial experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing software engineer teams
  • Ability to coordinate between multiple distinct teams
  • Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience highly regarded
