Senior SQL Server Database Engineer

Job Summary

SAP is seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Server Database Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our DevOps team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions to support, operate, and manage our databases in a multi-tenant application. Your expertise in database management and data maintenance using SQL Server or Azure SQL will be crucial in ensuring the reliability and performance of our databases.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and implement solutions to support, operate, and manage our databases.
  2. Provide recommendations and assistance to customers in resolving issues and performance bottlenecks.
  3. Assist with performance testing and application benchmarking activities.
  4. Partner with other teams to define product enhancements and specific issue resolutions.
  5. Continuous improvement of existing processes and standards.
  6. Participate in documenting technical solutions and improving our processes.
  7. Work on designing and implementing automations to reduce manual intervention for database-related manual maintenance and reporting activities.

Requirements

Excellent professional experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer.

Strong expertise in database management and data maintenance using SQL Server or Azure SQL.

Proficient in SQL Server/Azure SQL administration, including backup and recovery procedures and database security.

Strong expertise and proficiency with database performance tuning.

Experience and knowledge of scripting languages/automation.

Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

Strong experience working on a cloud platform, particularly MS Azure or AWS.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers and across a dispersed team.

Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment.

Able to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

Extremely customer-oriented and background in customer consulting would be advantageous.

Experience working in high-availability environments (24*7) would be a bonus.

Experience with PostgreSQL databases will be considered an asset.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
