Job Title: Field Security Specialist

  • This is a challenging and rewarding position for a highly motivated and experienced security professional. As a Field Security Specialist, you will be responsible for evaluating and assessing the security risk of UNHCR staff, operations, premises, partners, and persons of concern.
  • You will conduct regular security assessments in the field, gather and analyze information about the security situation during these missions, and identify potential risks and threats.
  • You will work closely with the supervisor to develop and implement effective security protocols and procedures in accordance with UNSMS policies, UNHCR policies, and the Security Risk Management process for the designated area.
  • You will also monitor the physical security of UNHCR premises, report on any deficiencies, and provide support during the implementation of security-related projects.
  • In addition, you will assist in the monitoring, updating, and reporting of security-related events, and maintain relations and cooperation with UN security management system actors, local law enforcement agencies, civil authorities, and other relevant agencies.
  • You will provide security briefings and training to UNHCR staff, and as appropriate, partner staff, on relevant security risk management processes and measures for the country concerned.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with safety and security procedures in the field such as emergency evacuations, assessment of premises in the field, security protocols, fire and building evacuation plans.
  • Proven capacity in the analysis of security risk situations in different scenarios and ability to recommend management and security focal points in the Field Offices/Unit on the steps to be followed to prevent and react in front of critical cases.
  • Experience working in conflict neighborhoods or sensitive areas, security management in complex or emergency situations, and experience in emergency deployments.
  • Previous experience working with UNDSS/UN Agencies/INGOs in similar field security positions or in the army or security forces.
  • Expertise and experience managing security equipment such as access control systems, communication equipment, and others.
  • Good communication and training skills.
  • Portuguese language proficiency is required; English is mandatory and Spanish is desirable.
