**ABOUT CPI**
Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) is an analysis and advisory organization with deep expertise in finance and policy. Our mission is to help governments, businesses, and financial institutions drive economic growth while addressing climate change. CPI has six offices around the world in Brazil, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
CPI’s Climate Law and Governance program provides decision makers with in-depth analysis of Brazil’s legal and regulatory framework and governance for key climate issues including land use, land rights, infrastructure, and energy.

CPI offers a challenging environment that requires independent thinking, collaboration, and pragmatic problem solving. The role of Data Analyst supports the deliverables of CPI’s Climate Law and Governance work stream in its Brazil office that provide in-depth analysis of environmental public policies, primarily focused on land use, environmental compliance, forest compensation, etc. Potential databases for analysis include the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), environmental fines and embargoes from IBAMA, SINAFLOR, etc.
The Data Analyst will work closely with the CPI’s Head of Policy Evaluation for Conservation. In conducting analysis, the Data Analyst will collaborate across CPI’s other areas of analysis including conservation, sustainable agriculture, finance, and energy.
**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Includes the following and others as assigned:
- Support the research team in the efficient collection and analysis of varied and cross-disciplinary data to incorporate into usable and reportable formats
- Handle a variety of data formats (including spatial data) using high-level scripting language
- Build and run procedures for statistical analyses using high-level scripting language
- Produce and format analytical output (tables, graphs, maps)
- Strictly observe requirements for transparent and reproducible research in the execution of daily tasks
- Lead team’s data and knowledge management efforts
- Work with CPI’s communications and research teams to develop data visualizations and web interfaces
- Assist in the writing and editing of high-quality CPI products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations
- Produce high-quality materials on demanding deadlines
- Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe
**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**
- Degree in statistics, data science or a similar field with an emphasis on quantitative analysis and data use
- Experience with data management and analytics using high-level programming languages (preferably R or Python) is required
- Experience with GIS using high-level programming languages (preferably R or Python) is strongly preferred
- Experience with version-control systems (preferably Git) is required
- Experience with data visualization methods is a plus
- Ability to explain and interpret results to non-expert colleagues
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Highly developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- An excellent team player who is flexible, proactive and able to multi-task
- Detail-oriented and able to take ownership of tasks with personal drive and to work with mínimal supervision
- Experience with data visualization interfaces/tools such as Tableau is a plus
- Previous background and experience in land use or conservation is desirable

**COMPENSATION & BENEFITS**
CPI is hiring for one full-time position, open immediately. The position is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Occasional regional travel may be required. During the current coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, CPI adopts a work from home policy. CPI in Brazil hires through the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and offers competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
