Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) is an analysis and advisory organization with deep expertise in finance and policy. CPI has six offices around the world in Brazil, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

CPI’s Climate Law and Governance (CLG) program provides decision makers with in-depth analysis of Brazil’s legal and regulatory framework and governance for key climate issues including land use, land rights, infrastructure, and energy.

This is a new role at CPI. The Program Associate will report to the Associate Director of the Climate Law and Governance team and will work with the CLG team in Brazil’s office to advance its agenda in land use. The Program Associate will be responsible for building and coordinating stakeholder networks for CPI’s work with Brazilian states on the implementation of the Forest Code, forest compensation, and on the judiciary’s role in land regularization. The Program Associate will work to develop and maximize relationships which will ensure CPI’s research has the highest impact and is informed by the issues, challenges and views of key audiences. This may be through organizing networking events, setting up meetings, identifying opportunities for CPI involvement, and working with the wider communications team.

It will be crucial to identify influencers and develop a system of mapping and tracking CPI’s engagement. This role will continually gather feedback and intelligence which will be used to improve CPI’s engagement strategy. Stakeholders will be a range of people and organizations working in land use issues from federal agencies like the Ministry of Agriculture, the Brazilian Forest Service and IBAMA, to state secretaries of environment and agriculture, to judiciary officials, to NGOs or private sector groups.

Additionally, the Program Associate will work closely with the Associate Director and CPI’s program team to articulate research findings, identify and develop new opportunities, and manage the current grant portfolio.

**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Includes the following and others as assigned:

- Provide strategic support to execute and expand the CLG’s work
- Identify key stakeholders and build awareness and trust of CPI by building and maintaining good relationship.
- Build and develop specific networks dedicated to strategic agendas
- Develop and support the team’s stakeholder management database
- Develop engagement activities within CPI’s projects through listening, research and feedback including organizing events ranging from one-on-one meetings to larger networking events.
- Manage the Associate Director’s engagement with stakeholders, arranging meetings and logistics
- Keep track of the external policy / advocacy space and update the wider team on significant developments / announcements from across the stakeholder
- Work with the wider Communications team to hone appropriate messaging and engagement approaches, including stakeholder specific segmentation and tailoring where appropriate
- Work across the research, program and communications teams at CPI to ensure a timely deliverables of relevant work products
- Support grant writing and project reporting

**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**
- Have exceptional relationship building skills with a range of stakeholders
- Be a strong communicator who is able to engage with a variety of audiences
- Able to self-manage and work independently
- Experience in project planning/management
- Experience in organizing events
- BA or BS degree in public policy, International Relations, law, or demonstrable equivalent experience. Master’s degree desirable.
- Experience or knowledge in the areas of climate policy and/or sustainable development
- Knowledge in governance and Brazil’s regulatory framework is desirable
- Excellent written Portuguese is required. High level of written and spoken English is desirable.
