**Role Purpose**
The Research Associate will be based in our **Rio de Janeiro** office and assist in developing and operating models, databases, and reports for our growing Southern Cone Power Service. These responsibilities will include collecting market information/intelligence, analyzing data to generate market insights, and building analytical models to create market forecasts.
**Main Responsibilities**
- Contribute to market research for Wood Mackenzie’s Long-term and Short-term Power Market Outlooks for Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia.
- Support the development and improvement of Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary models that underpin the market coverage.
- Develop and maintain forecast models and data sets across verticals within the Power & Renewables vertical.
- Check the alignment of our databases with official figures from local sources, namely national energy balances, energy regulatory agency reports, system and market operators, among others.
- Draft portions of our written analysis based on the data and insights gathered through research.
- Lead automatization processes, data collection and quality control efforts with the respective data teams
**About You**
- Recent graduate with a proven interest in power markets or up to 2 years of industry experience in the power sector.
- Quantitative background and degree (e.g., economics, finance, engineering).
- Required programming and software skills include SQL, VBA, and Python (optional).
- Knowledge of Brazil’s wholesale power market structure and its operation. Knowledge of other power markets in Latin America is beneficial.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and interest in using qualitative and quantitative methods to answer market questions.
- Self-driven.
- Superb communication skills, with demonstrated ability and comfort interacting with internal teams.
- An engaging and collaborative nature, capable of connecting with colleagues, clients and industry stakeholders in a wide range of professional settings.
- A deep intellectual curiosity about the power sector and broader business landscape.
- Superior writing skills.
