Senior Backend Developer

You will start your day on a scrum call to prioritize and track work. Within the team you work on, you will choose user stories to work within a sprint cycle. You will spend most of your day developing and testing your code. Regularly, you will be involved in the release activities.

To thrive in this development career, you'll need to be an expert in at least one modern programming language used in cloud-native backend architectures, like NodeJS, Python or C#, and be highly motivated to rapidly learn, design and code using Java 8+. ADP is a company focused on Human Capital Management (HCM) services. The company is working on a collection of new products to support the services, commonly referred as NextGen. Some of these products have their own development tools and low code standards. You may be required to learn these tools and languages, to understand the business problem they solve and how to integrate them either by configuration or middleware development.

**Here’s what you can expect on a typical day**:

- **Agile.** You’ll start each day with a scrum, working in a team to understand responsibilities, identify issues, and communicate coding priorities while choosing user stories to complete. You will also participate in other agile ceremonies, including scheduled sprint demos.
- **Development.** You won’t just focus on development in this role, you will be also responsible for testing and deployment. Working in two-week sprints, you must keep up with timelines and coding standards. Your daily schedule will have software development, test coding using Unit Testing tools and techniques (ideally TDD) to comply with high coverage requirements and artifact preparation for deployment in different environments.
- **Continuous Learning**. You will attend “lunch and learn” sessions to actively collaborate with other developers to share ideas or show what you’ve learned. An eagerness to learn will help you keep up with ever-changing technologies and maintain the ability to create the best tools for our clients.
- **Support.** When working on products currently in use, sometimes you can act as a point of contact for our clients. If so, you’ll start those days with regular activities on software development, but during the day you may have to switch gears to a support role.
- **Experience.**You need good experience in software development and experience mentoring and managing teams.

**TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE**:
