Director of Privacy, Latin America

The Privacy Director in Latin America will be responsible for supporting business affiliates in the region by providing legal advice, interpretation, and guidance to senior business and functional leaders in connection with all privacy and data protection-related matters, including interpretation of laws and regulations, drafting, and negotiating contracts, and others. The Director will also be responsible for defending the affiliates’ interests in any litigation initiated by or against the affiliates as regards privacy, including reviewing all privacy-related information, preparing a privacy-related defense for any legal actions against the affiliates, and advising them on prosecuting privacy-related lawsuits on behalf of the affiliates. The Privacy Director will coordinate, review the work, and manage the engagement of outside privacy counsel.

Additionally, the Privacy Director in Latin America will be responsible for supporting business affiliates in the region in developing, implementing, and maintaining effective and sustainable privacy compliance programs, through the delivery of policies, training, and consultation. These activities include, but are not limited to:

- Establishing key business relationships representing the Privacy function of the business, addressing training, education, and awareness needs
- Ensuring the Privacy Program meets new and developing regulatory, legal, and J&J privacy obligations, seeking compliance while looking for improvements and efficiencies
- Assuming Data Protection Officer roles, or similar roles, if required by laws in the region or if provided as an option by law and considered relevant by the Privacy Leadership
- Preparing internal and external Privacy compliance audits and implementing corrective actions, solutions, and process improvements
- Connecting with the global/regional, internal, and external Privacy community to share approaches and best practices on Privacy compliance and serving on teams to harmonize and optimize company approaches to privacy
- Establishing sound Privacy documentation and metrics to demonstrate compliance
- Supporting any privacy diligence requirements for acquisitions and third-party vendors & suppliers as applicable

**Qualifications** Required Competencies**:

- Law Degree from University in the region
- Ten or more years of business experience
- LATAM Privacy compliance experience
- Proficiency in English, Spanish and Portuguese languages
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills, working well between functions and across all levels of the business, dealing with ambiguity and complex business situations
- Ability to translate a wide variety of Privacy compliance principles and sophisticated legal requirements into practical solutions for the business, developing solutions that generate value through partnerships while ensuring compliance
- A demonstrated record of positively influencing decisions and collaborating with business partners, using discernment, enterprise mentality, and partnership/collaboration to assist the business to achieve its goals and objectives in accordance with Privacy Principles and Policies
- Track record in establishing and implementing effective corporate programs or projects
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, program management skills, and keen ability to assess/manage risk
