**Safety Officer**
**About the job**
The Safety Officer is locally responsible for the development of Health, Safety, and Environmental programs. Plays a key role in the implementation and ongoing surveillance of the Global Safety Policy and Standards. The Safety Officer’s function exists to provide all employees with a safe and healthy working environment and make sure the organization complies with employment, HSE regulations, and laws.
**Main responsibilities**:
- Ensure relevant HSE legal requirements are interpreted, communicated, documented, and met at the location
- Coordinate safety programs to reduce occupational injuries, illness, and financial loss. Assist departmental managers in implementing HSE procedures for a safer work environment and make sure the procedures are compliant with local rules and regulations
- In collaboration with the Production Manager and the site HSE Committee, participate in setting HSE goals, analyzing performance, and setting strategies for continual improvement.
- Ensures site personnel have access to required training in a planned manner on Global HSE programs, including, but not limited to HSE policies, guidelines, practices, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, regulations and standards, and incident investigation.
- Ensures a minimum standard of HSE training is provided and conducted at the location
- Provides regular reports on the progress towards HSE goals, on-site Safety activities, and any agency/regulatory inspections/violations
- Collaborate with Global HSE programs -prepare/submit reports, support HSE audits of global facilities
- Serve as a consultant to local management on HSE issues; Identify and suggest corrective measures to improve the location’s incident experience and to suggest/implement means to achieve site HSE goals.
- Ensure that mandatory HSE reporting is completed for the location
- Perform incident registration within reporting Marel software
- Regularly report the information required at a Global level such as Waste data collection, etc.
- Perform inspections of facilities to detect an existing or potential accident and health hazards (risk assessment), determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented
- Lead the investigation of incidents and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
- Ensures all personnel at the location have access to HSE material in a language they understand
- Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies
- Interact with HSE regulators/agencies during site inspections; guide satellite sites on HSE regulatory inspections
- Ensures contractor control at the location
- Perform other HSE duties as assigned
**Requirements**:
- Recognized HSE academic qualifications, accepted by the HSE Manager and /or Committee
- Practical and hands-on working style and demonstrable experience are needed
- Demonstrable HSE experience and proven record of accomplishment within the specialism are preferred.
- Prior working experience in similar industries is preferred
- Certified Safety Engineer is preferred
- Prior working experience in similar industries is preferred. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence at senior and operational levels internally and external to the organization
