Un-habitat Intern

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

The interns will work under the supervision of the National Officer for Brazil (2 vacancies) and under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat team responsible for the Urban Connections project, in Brazil. The project seeks to increase the capacities of local authorities and communities through urban planning, aiming at the inclusion of migrants, promoting social cohesion, and enhancing cross-border cooperation in selected small and intermediate cities near international borders in Latin America and Western Asia. In the case of Latin America, the project is coordinated by UN-Habitat’s Brazil team and implemented in 6 cross-border cities between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay [Foz do Iguaçu (BR) - Ciudad del Este (PY) | Bernardo de Irigoyen (AR) - Barracão (BR) - Bom Jesus do Sul (BR) - Dionisio Cerqueira (BR)].

The UN-Habitat Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) internship is for 6 months.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the Supervision of (e.g. Programme Officer, Chief etc) the intern will:

- Assist in the implementation of public spaces methodologies that will be applied in the project.
- Research and systematize knowledge from publications, plans and urban legislation of the project’s target municipalities.
- Assist the Data team in the development of maps using GIS/CAD softwares, gathering, compiling, and organizing spatial information.
- Assist in the development of project reports and presentations.
- Support the production and organization of participatory workshops.
- Document and maintain an orderly and accessible information related to all activities undertaken, following the team guidelines and archive system.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the team.

Task Opportunities:

- Familiarizing oneself with the United Nations.
- Familiarizing oneself with urban planning, urban development, urban design and participatory processes, focusing on the intersection between public spaces and migration.
- Expanding contact with different stakeholders at several levels.

Education
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
