As we transition to cleaner forms of energy, the challenge facing the energy industry in the coming decades is considerable. AI is playing a crucial role in navigating through the uncertainties of the energy future. In this role, you will contribute to the AI innovation within the company.

**What’s the role?**

This is a role in the newly established Brazil Technology Digital Hub under PTX/E organization, which is tasked with formulating and executing leading R&D digital projects with third parties in Brazil that satisfy our R&D Levy obligation with the ANP, align with Shell strategy, and deliver value to Shell.

The role requires a combination of deep technical expertise with business acumen, a strategic mindset, and client relationship skills. Problem solving and a passion for using advanced machine learning and AI to generate business impact are central to the role. Digital Hub R&D programs will focus on areas that

are strategically important for digital innovation such as AI at HPC scale, AI-augmented models for acceleration of scientific simulations, AI for new energy domains including RES and related fields.

When it comes to developing one of Shell’s forward-looking innovation programs, your strategic thinking, and strategic partnership development capability will make all the difference. You should have the capability to develop working relationships where you will connect the internal and external innovators, take up their innovations, and help to shape it into a robust product that is ready to generate commercial value.

**Accountabilities**:

- Contribute to and lead deep learning and digital R&D projects with 3rd parties, providing technicalsteer to maximize value to Shell, with support from Shell Subject Matter Experts and colleagues in the asset
- Accountable for management of these projects to meet all Shell internal requirements and ANP regulations, with support from dedicated commercial, finance and portfolio specialists
- Lead and co-develop technical proposals, research activities including design sprints, literature reviews, field research, and prototype building
- Use innovative research to influence relevant products and partner teams across Shell, and to have company and societal impact
- Work on innovative ideas that can bring the right change in the energy industry
- Implement AI algorithms, appraise new technology, and deliver on milestones
- Connect with vendors, universities, and other external entities to bring in new ideas and solutions
- Help Shell businesses and technology platforms to shape up their AI strategy and roadmap

**What we need from you?**
- scientific activities either in industry or in a research environment
- Exposure to different R&D topics, processes, in a digital technology/applied research environment
- Problem framing skills to identify business needs, define problems worth solving and construct multi-discipline technology solutions
- Embody the Learner Mindset, which in Shell is a shared belief that everyone continuously learns and grows their abilities, learning from others, from mistakes and successes and can always speak up openly in a safe environment.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary natural teams and willingness to grow and stretch out of own discipline and comfort zone
- Experience and understanding of technology innovation and the relevant options for managing within a corporate entity
- Personal commitment to drive high standards in research quality and safety culture & HSE practices with external parties
- Well-developed communication skills to deal effectively with local and global stakeholders, both internal and external
- A mathematical background covering some subset of linear algebra, probability, multivariate calculus, geometry, and numerical methods will be invaluable
- Strong TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras experience in one or more of the following: generative models, fully convolutional neural networks, transformer networks, GANs, weak supervision,reinforcement
- and imitation-learning, novel architectures (graph-convolution, U-Net, PointNet, BSPNet, etc.)
- Hands-on code development (e.g. Python, C++, ), comfort with some flavor of Unix shell (e.g. bash)
- Experience using Git to manage models, and source code
- Experience in Cloud stacks and architecture, such as Azure, AWS, etc
