PMO Leader

Hydro is a Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company headquartered in Oslo, Norway. It is one of the largest aluminium companies in the world, employing approximately 35.000 people globally across some 50 countries. Hydro is divided into four business areas, each representing a key step in the aluminium value chain. The Bauxite and Alumina (B&A) business area deals with bauxite mining and alumina refining and is based in Brazil.

The ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) division within B&A will be responsible for operating the Integrated Management Office (IMO). The IMO is a Project Management Office (PMO) with the objective of consolidating, coordinating and tracking B&A’s portfolio of Non-Operational Projects (NOPs). B&A’s NOP portfolio is a central component of B&A’s Social License to Operate (SLO) and the IMO will hence be critical in setting and driving the SLO agenda within B&A and within Hydro as a whole.

**Overarching role and architecture**:

- The PMO leader will head the IMO and report directly to the ESG Director;
- The PMO leader will also be responsible for running the individual PMOs for 4 NOPs which sit under the IMO;
- The IMO team will contain up to 6 PMO analysts (currently 4 analysts employed).

**People**:

- Manage and develop multiple PMOs and direct reports;
- Establish robust and effective project governance within relevant PMOs and across B&A NOPs;
- Engage the PMO team and key stakeholders to encourage timely completion of actions / deliverables;
- Encourage collaboration / synergies within PMOs and across PMOs (i.e. across the IMO);
- Support alignment on context, progress, risks and opportunities within the PMOs and across the organization;
- Clearly identify, consolidate, prioritize, align, communicate and escalate key progress, risks and opportunities to the Head of the IMO and to the Sponsors of key NOPs.

**Process**:

- Implement and refine tracking systems within relevant PMOs;
- Design and / or review existing project management processes and tools and implement across relevant NOPs;
- Build and facilitate training sessions for the NOP teams to support in the implementation of relevant processes;
- Ensure robust and complete tracking of PMO activities and the timely completion of deliverables;
- Collect, consolidate and align status updates for communication to key stakeholders, including the B&A Management Team;
- Identify, prioritize, align and escalate key risks and opportunities to cover both NOP progress and NOP implications (i.e. identify deliverables whose content could pose a risk / opportunity for the organization);
- Identify and address synergies and pressure points within and across relevant PMOs;
- Manage relevant budgets, including relevant timeline and quality considerations;
- Oversee resource allocation within and across relevant PMOs;
- Oversee planning within and across relevant PMOs;
- Manage, organize and coordinate meetings within and across relevant PMOs;
- Define the goals and roadmap for the IMO team, and guide the team towards achievement;
- Look for opportunities to improve the IMO team and relevant NOPs.

**Responsibility**:

- Ability to effectively run multiple PMOs with mínimal input and guidance
- Responsibility for managing, developing and growing multiple direct reports, including the creation of a team spirit;
- Liaise with key IMO stakeholders to promote the identification and resolution of risks and issues within the relevant NOPs;
- Ownership of the methodology and tools employed within the relevant PMOs, resource allocation within and across PMOs and the identification and escalation of key issues to key stakeholders (in alignment with the Head of the IMO).

**Locations**:

- The ESG Director is based in Rio de Janeiro;
- The IMO team and most NOPs are based in Belem, together with Hydro’s physical assets;

The position of IMO Leader will be based in either Rio or Belem; frequent travel to the other city will be required (more travel should be expected if based in Rio),

**Skills**:

- Fluent in English and Portuguese (the ESG Director does not speak Portuguese);
- Education (Engenharias, Administração, Economia, e afins) / background that showcases a logical and structured approach to problem solving (e.g. engineering);
- Experience in project management and demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and budget is a must - 8+ years are desirable
- Ability to work independently but with a knowledge of when and how to escalate key issues;
- Ability to build working relationships with key stakeholders, including strong interpersonal skills to help build alignment;
- Strong analytical skills to allow consolidation, prioritization and standardization of data on a continuous basis;
- Strong problem-solving skills to support the identification and timely resolution of problems / roadblocks;
