Backend Software Engineer

About the Role: As a Software Engineer at BWZ you are responsible for the whole development process, starting with discovering, planning and developing, ending with testing and deploying. You will work in an environment that offers freedom with responsibility, and encourages simplicity with risk taking
You will be working in the BWZ's Tech Team, highly involved in the development of our back-end systems and integrations (using , Python, AWS, etc), but also participating on the development and architecture of our multi-site Web Platform (built in WordPress), our Ad Tech Platform (built in Ruby on Rails), among many others systems and products
You can work remotely or in a flexible regime, if you are in Curitiba, Brazil. Keep in mind that our teams work in the PST time zone, and your hours should be as least partially compatible with it
What You'll Be Doing: Reporting to the Technology Director, working in the BWZ Labs Team but also closely with the Web Platform. You will be tasked with the development of internal systems used by dozens of employees, as well as customer facing systems used by thousands of clients
You don't have to know all the answers, because you will have the time to research and learn new technologies and solutions, so you can make suggestions and implementations that might fit our product needs to better perform and scale. Who You Are: You are a software engineer with meaningful experience building web applications. You are good at curating your own priorities. You are curious about how things are done and how they work. You are good at communicating your deliveries and demands with pairs and stakeholder. You don't like repetitive tasks, so you automate everything you can. You like to test new things, and you don't mind if it doesn't work and move on How Your Success Will Be Measured: We don't like to measure effort, rather we try to focus on effectiveness. You will be accountable for your results, not the hours you worked. You will be part of a team, collaboration is a key factor. Your Skill Set Includes: Curiosity to understand how things work. An unbridled openness to learning new technology. Great time-management and prioritization skills. Openness to learn and use new programming languages. You are comfortable to read / write documentations from / to others. Good communication in English. Required Experience for this Position: Meaningful experience building web applications using high-level programming languages such as PHP, Python, Ruby, GoLang, or similar. Track record of contributing to end-to-end system development, covering UI, server-side logic, and infrastructure layers. Experience with system design of web applications. Experience with Javascript technologies such as React, , , or similar. Solid understanding of databases and how they work. Good understanding of Cloud Infrastructure and how they work. Nice to Haves for this Position: Experience with AWS-based architecture. Experience with Cloudflare platform. Experience working with CMS (WordPress or similar). Experience using AI IDEs. Experience building LLM-based applications / worflows. Experience with MVC frameworks. Experience developing APIs and/or MCPs. Experience writing tests and building deployment pipelines.
